A beautiful LOFT in historic Pietermaai District. This vibrant neighborhood is also called the "Soho" of Curacao and our cozy loft is located in the heart of the district. The loft has everything you need for a home away from home. We are only 5 minutes away from the city centre and the nearest beach. We have 2 bedrooms available ( the 2nd bedroom is available when your booking has more than 2 guests and/or for a little surcharge when your party of 2 needs two bedrooms please let us know). The space Our lovely LOFT is the lower level part of our house. Our house is a restored monument dating back to the mid 1800's. Fully restored to accommodate the needs of our guests. The loft has a beautiful kitchen block with a fridge plus an electrical cooking station. Utilities such as a blender for your smoothies, a PURO coffee machine and a little oven toast your bread are made available for you to use. The veranda on the front side is a perfect spot to relax as well as our shared little garden in the back. Only a short walk ( less than a minute) from our LOFT there is a small cozy pool (not private but usually very calm). (We are currently creating a pool in the garden will be ready September 2021) Guest access Next to the LOFT you also have access to our shared garden, the swimming pool and you can use our washing machine. The neighborhood Pietermaai District’s allure draws business men, artists, students and travelers alike. Fondly referred to as the "SoHo" of Curaçao, its stunning architecture is likely to catch one’s eye. Boutique hotels, small shops, cozy little cafés and top-rated restaurants snuggled together, makes the neighborhood highly walkable and perfect for exploring at your leisure. It’s a neighborhood full of mystery, magic and fun. Originally a residential neighborhood, and owing its existence to a lack of space within the city walls in the beginning of the 18th century, Pietermaai District is now home to many trendy lounge areas and dotted with specialty shops and art studios. It is said that the area was named after the Dutch captain Pieter de Meij. The suburb attracted wealthy merchants resulting in impressive mansions built in the Dutch architectural styles of the 18th and 19th century. In the mid-19th century, after the city walls were torn down, Pietermaai became a hub for ideas, business and culture. The theaters and small artisanal businesses added to the neighborhood’s appeal and still serve as inspiration for the lively atmosphere the area is known for today. For longtime residents, it was painful to see their beloved Pietermaai slowly being taken over by drug peddlers in the late 20th century. The residents retreated indoors and wealthier families moved to safer parts of the island, leaving the streets and iconic buildings for criminals to wreak havoc on. Remnants of that period are still visible in a few buildings, however most of the derelict buildings have been restored and modern buildings occupy previously vacant plots. A perfect combination of the old and the new. The quaint neighborhood of Pietermaai District is located just a stone’s throw away from the city center Willemstad. The district covers an impressive, yet walkable, area stretching from The Movies at Plaza Mundo Merced to the rows of bars along Pietermaai and the restaurants at Johan van Walbeeckplein all the way to Avila Hotel in Penstraat. Getting around We always advise on renting a car however the main bus hub is a 2 minute walk from the LOFT and will take you to various parts of the island ( no fixed time schedule) Other things to note Diving Curacao is a true diving paradise. The island is surrounded by unspoilt and protected reef. Plenty of fish and coral nearby. Pietermaai DIstrict is a perfect home base for divers to explore the island. There are various diving schools in the area. These diving schools organize diving courses and rent dive equipment. Interesting boat trips are offered to special diving locations which are difficult to reach from the coast. Mountain biking The wild nature on the island is extremely suitable for mountain bike tours. On your mountain bike you can discover the island in a total different way. Various MTB tours are available on the island. Boat trips Catamaran trips, sailing trips to Klein Curacao, fishing expeditions or diving- and snorkeling trips. There is something going on for everybody! We recommend Bounty Adventures for a fantastic sailing trip over to "Klein Curacao" Getting Around We always advise our guests to rent a car to get around. This way you will see the island in your own pace but can also go to places where the public transport doesn't come. The water is safe to drink in Curacao, as it is sourced from a modern desalination plant. So fill up those empty bottles pop them in the freezer and you will have nice and cold water ice water when going to the beach
