This attractive independent cottage is located in a secluded olive grove on the edge of woodland surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. Only 15 minutes by car from mainline trains to Roma and Napoli, it is also just 20 minutes from the unspoilt sand dunes and beaches of southern Lazio. The cottage is just 5 minutes ’drive away from the village of Roccagorga and the busy town of Sezze, both of which have a weekly market and the usual range of butchers, bakeries, supermarkets and pharmacies. There are numerous restaurants in the vicinity offering excellent traditional local food at very good prices.
The cottage is designed for up to 4 guests with a comfortable double bedroom and two single beds in the living area, ideal for a couple with children, or friends (a cot can be provided if necessary). The fully equipped kitchen makes it a joy to prepare wonderfully fresh ingredients bought in the market (the area is famous for its artichokes and mozzarella cheese) which can be enjoyed sitting al fresco outside under the trees of the olive grove - you might even be lucky enough to see a wild boar in the adjacent woodland or hear a nightingale. Dogs are welcome to enjoy the large enclosed garden.
Southern Lazio is off the usual beaten tourist track, but offers much to see and do: from mediaeval towns like Sermoneta and Bassiano to characteristic hilltop villages (Pisterzo & Maenza), ancient abbeys at Fossanova and Valvisciolo; the incredible botanical gardens at Ninfa to the stunning national park of San Felice Circeo. There is excellent walking in the mountains (Monte Semprevisa at 1,536m is close by), as are opportunities for horse riding, mountain biking and cycling.
Day trips further afield make the cottage a great place to explore the whole of the region. Trips to Tivoli, Castel Gandolfo, Palestrina and the Alban hills are only a short trip away. Herculaneum and Pompei are easily reachable. The monastery at Monte Cassino is close by, as are the WW2 memorials at Anzio and Nettuno.
Although it is possible to reach the cottage by public transport, it is recommended that guests have a car in order to fully enjoy what the area has to offer. Both Fiumicino and Ciampino airports are about an hour and a half drive away and if you are driving south, then the cottage is only about 20 minutes away from the A1 exit at Frosinone.
