## Emplacement
In the 8th arrondissement was born the cinema, invented by the two brothers Louis and Auguste Lumière. The “Lumière Institute” traces the birth of cinema in Lyon.
The famous places are:
- Saint Maurice Church, which was built in 1845
- The Lumière School Group and the Saint Maurice School: The Lumière School opened in 1890 in a spacious space, followed in 1909 by a new one at Saint Maurice, financed by the well-to-do families of the district.
- The Bandstand: The president of the Lyre Monplaisir called the city at the beginning of the twentieth century for the construction of the Bandstand. The Lumière family supported this request and a fundraiser was launched. The Bandstand was built in 1912 and disappeared in 1958 during the redevelopment of the square. The arrival of the subway in the neighborhood in 1987 led to a new redevelopment and reinstallation of the Bandstand at the same location.
- Place Ambroise-Courtois: it is entitled this way in honor of this extreme socialist, friend of Edouard Herriot and Lyon city councilor, who was assassinated by the militia in January 1944.
