Summary: I was walking the Mare e Monti Sud route and this hotel was perfectly situated right beside the church, near the start of the next day's walk. The room was fine for an overnight stay and the restaurant was good and conveniently just below.
The Google map directions were horribly wrong. When I arrived tired and hot in the village at the end of the path, it told me I had 11km and over 2 hours of walking still to do!

Summary: Location is absolutely great. Your dog is welcome here! Restaurant serves a great menu with many local courses inspired by grandmother Mini. Restaurant seems a bit understaffed during service, when it’s busy you have to be patient.

Summary: We arrived at 9.30 p.m. to find the hotel in darkness. The door to reception was open but there was no-one around. There was a room key in a basket on the counter - and the room was empty – so we left our luggage and went elsewhere to eat. On our return, there was still no-one around, so we went to bed.
In the morning, we found the manager, who spoke no English but managed to explain via Google translate that she had been to a family funeral. She was very apologetic and gave us a bigger room with a balcony. However, we didn’t see her again (or any other staff) for the rest of the week. Some days the room was tidied and the bed made, sometimes not.
The restaurant was closed, which was a pity as locals told us it was the best food in town. Fortunately there are two very good restaurants in walking distance (Chez Antoine, La Source).
Despite all this, I still think it’s a lovely little hotel if, like us, you prefer small family run places to big soulless establishments – it’s just that we found the (lack of) service a bit bizarre. It’s probably fine in high season.

Summary: After a frustrating long hot drive from Bastia, we finally located Santa Maria and found the most helpful, obliging and courteous staff. The Room was excellent for price, tranquil and airconditioned, and the whole atmosphere of family friendliness conspired with the quaint surroundings, and the most excellent cuisine especial the dishes with a local flavor, great local wines, to make this destination an absolute highlight of our stay in Corsica.
