Großräschen is in close proximity to the A13 motorway and is an hour's drive from Berlin and a 45-minute drive from Dresden. The port basin of the later city harbor was built on behalf of the federally owned Lausitzer und Mitteldeutsche Bergbaugesellschaft (LMBV).
