Positive: I spent four quiet, gentle days at Zhangjiajie ZEN Retreat–FairyLand, and those days left me with a kind of beauty that needs no decoration—simple, calming, and deeply comforting. It was the kind of stay that makes you breathe easier and want to return the moment you leave. Newly opened on May 1st, the Bed and Breakfast has just thirteen suites and sits peacefully in a small, quiet village. A clear stream flows outside, framed by soft blue mountain silhouettes. The air feels fresh enough to drink, and the constant birdsong adds a rhythmic calm. Even before stepping inside, I felt travel fatigue fade. The owner provides free pick-up from both the high-speed rail station and the airport. Someone met me immediately upon arrival, making the transition into the city effortless. The room was another pleasant surprise. The design blends modern simplicity with subtle traditional elements, creating a space that feels stylish, warm, and thoughtfully arranged. A designer from Shenzhen is behind the interior, and the care in every detail shows. The smart-home system added unexpected delight. A gentle call of “Xiao Wei” adjusted the lights, curtains, or TV as if the room anticipated my needs. The bed was wide and wonderfully comfortable, the bedding soft yet supportive. Temperature control worked smoothly, and on cooler nights, the small fireplace brought a cozy glow. My favorite feature was the jacuzzi—soaking after a day of exploring melted away all fatigue. But what truly moved me were the people. The owner and staff were warm, sincere, and never intrusive. They helped book Zhangjiajie National Park tickets, planned routes, and even offered free rides to the scenic area. Everything felt naturally taken care of. Meals added to the comfort. Breakfast offered a generous mix of Chinese and Western dishes, fresh coffee, tea, and juices. Dinner featured humble, hearty Tujia cuisine in a relaxed dining space where guests often chatted and exchanged travel notes.
